Local people expressed concerns about the loss of greenfield land, traffic congestion and the impact on public services; and there was also an expressed desire that higher levels of development should deliver tangible benefits to local people in terms of affordable housing and economic benefits, and providing the opportunity for young people and families to remain in their local area. It is important that the Local Plan, and other public policy interventions, seek to address these issues as far as possible." [Draft Local Plan 1.20]
Canterbury Council knows that people do not want to build on greenfield sites. However, all the major new sites proposed for Herne Bay are greenfield land.
