A Town At War: Herne Bay in the Second World War
HBM
Written by John Fishpool and published by the Herne Bay Historical Records Society. This book brings together many stories relating to the town’s role during the Second World War - including the anti-invasion precautions and preparations for the ‘Dam Buster’ raids. The author was fortunate to be able to have access to the detailed wartime diaries of Inspector Charles Setterfield of the Kent County Constabulary and also the reminiscences of Charles Clark (Chief Public Health Inspector to the old Herne Bay Urban District Council and designated wartime ARP Casualty Commandant).
